TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Tim Harrison, founder and president of Harrison Construction Co., has been honored with the prestigious 2024 Charles H. Land Member of the Year Award by the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama. The award was presented during the Chamber's 124th annual meeting on January 23, recognizing Harrison’s remarkable contributions to the construction industry and the West Alabama community.
This esteemed award is named in honor of the late Charles H. Land, a former Chamber president and publisher of The Tuscaloosa News, and is the highest honor bestowed on an individual member of the Chamber.
Harrison’s Industry Leadership and Community Involvement
With more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry, Harrison has made significant contributions not only through his leadership at Harrison Construction Co., a company he founded in 1996, but also through his community involvement and leadership roles. He has served in various leadership positions with organizations such as West Alabama Works, Worlds of Work, the Alabama chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors, and the Tuscaloosa City Planning and Zoning Construction Board.
“Not many people know that Tim’s involvement is so huge,” said Jheovanny Gomez, the Chamber’s board chairman for 2024. “(This honor is) so well deserved. We are a better community because of him.”
Harrison has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to education and workforce development. He helped establish a carpentry program at Shelton State Community College by partnering with two other local construction companies. Additionally, he is an Adopt-A-School Junior Achievement Sustaining Supporter, furthering his dedication to local youth and education.
Other Recognitions at the Chamber Annual Meeting
During the annual meeting at the Bryant Conference Center on the University of Alabama campus, several other notable figures and organizations were recognized for their contributions to the region:
- Fitzgerald Washington received the Honorable Richard C. Shelby Leadership Award. Washington, a Tuscaloosa native, retired in 2024 after serving 10 years as secretary of the Alabama Department of Labor.
- Phifer Inc., one of Tuscaloosa County’s largest manufacturers, was honored with the Robert C. Tanner Corporate Service Award.
- Tera Batayneh of RiverFall Credit Union received the Ambassador of the Year Award.
- Erica Grant of The Charm District was given the Diverse Business Council Trailblazer Award.
- Turning Point, a nonprofit that supports families, was named Nonprofit of the Year.
- Matt Feller of BFGoodrich and Karen Thompson-Jackson of Temporary Emergency Services were presented with Distinguished Service Awards.
- Daniel Barnett of RTR Pro Entertainment received the Entrepreneurial Rising Star Award.
