ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. – Construction has officially begun on a major outdoor music venue in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, marking the start of a $30 million investment that aims to bring large-scale entertainment to the region while preserving the area’s natural environment.

The Elizabethtown Outdoor Music Venue, located at Buffalo Lake in Hardin County, is being developed on a 55-acre recreational and wildlife reserve. City officials and Elizabethtown Tourism announced the start of the initial construction phase on January 30, 2025, setting the stage for a venue that is expected to become a cultural and entertainment hub when it opens in 2026.

Preserving the Natural Environment

A key focus of the development is environmental sustainability. According to a news release, efforts are being made to balance construction with ecological preservation. Approximately 200 scrub trees will be removed, but the project will plant 474 indigenous trees in their place to maintain the area's natural beauty.

Prime Location and Seating Capacity

The venue is strategically located off Interstate 65 near Bluegrass Parkway, making it easily accessible for visitors from across Kentucky and neighboring states. The venue will offer a total of 10,000 seats, with 4,000 seats in the main “bowl” area and an additional 6,000 seats available on the sides and back of the bowl.

Funding and Economic Impact

Funding for the venue’s construction comes from a joint agreement between the City of Elizabethtown and Elizabethtown Tourism, with the majority of the financial support coming from the local restaurant tax. The restaurant tax, a 2% city tax on prepared foods, is being used to ensure the project remains locally funded while boosting economic growth in the region.

City officials anticipate that the venue will not only attract top musical acts but also stimulate economic activity in restaurants, hotels, and local businesses, ultimately benefiting both residents and visitors.

A Vision for the Future

Elizabethtown officials and tourism leaders see the new music venue as a game-changer for the community, providing a state-of-the-art space for concerts, festivals, and live entertainment. The project is expected to enhance Elizabethtown’s reputation as a destination for music lovers while supporting local businesses and tourism growth.

With construction now underway, anticipation continues to build for the opening of what promises to be a landmark entertainment venue in 2026.
