Solar Landscape Energizes 14 Community Solar Projects in Maryland

Caroline Raffetto

Solar Landscape, a leading commercial rooftop solar developer in the United States, has successfully energized 14 new community solar projects across Maryland, adding 6.6 megawatts (MW) of clean energy to the state’s power grid. These projects mark the first of 57 planned installations in Maryland, making it the largest collection of community solar projects developed by a single company in the state.

Expanding Access to Clean Energy

With these latest activations, Solar Landscape strengthens its position as Maryland’s statewide leader in rooftop community solar, accounting for nearly 50% of the state’s recent market share in its development pipeline. The entire portfolio, once fully energized, will provide 55 megawatts (DC) of solar capacity, enough to power 5,870 homes with renewable energy.

“Community solar projects like the ones we’ve energized create jobs, reduce energy costs and help Maryland meet its energy needs,” said Shaun Keegan, CEO and co-founder of Solar Landscape. “Putting large solar installations on commercial rooftops is a smart, shovel-ready energy solution that also pays dividends to building owners.”

Locations of the New Solar Projects

The newly energized projects are located in:

  • Baltimore (five projects)
  • Gaithersburg (two projects)
  • Bel Air
  • Bethesda
  • Burtonsville
  • Dundalk
  • Owings Mills
  • Westminster
  • Woodlawn

The projects were interconnected by Baltimore Gas & Electric Company (BGE) and Pepco, helping deliver clean energy efficiently to Maryland residents.

The Benefits of Commercial Rooftop Solar

Hosting community solar projects on commercial rooftops allows for the rapid deployment of solar energy without impacting valuable agricultural land or open space. Unlike large ground-mounted solar farms, rooftop projects can typically be developed and built within 12 to 24 months, thanks to streamlined interconnection processes and modular designs.

By leveraging underutilized commercial rooftop spaces, Solar Landscape is ensuring that Maryland’s transition to clean energy is both sustainable and space-efficient.

Investing in Maryland’s Clean Energy Workforce

As part of its Maryland solar initiative, Solar Landscape has partnered with STEP-UP, a nationally recognized workforce development nonprofit. Together with Woodland Job Corps in Laurel, Maryland, STEP-UP hosted a three-day hands-on solar installation training in 2023 and is planning another session later this year. These programs help equip individuals with the skills needed to enter the growing clean energy sector.

A Nationwide Solar Expansion

In 2024, Solar Landscape leased 40 million square feet of commercial rooftop space across the U.S. The company’s national portfolio will require over $1 billion in project financing, supporting the development of 500 megawatts of solar capacity—enough to power 80,000 households. Solar Landscape now collaborates with over 80 commercial real estate partners, collectively managing more than 2 billion square feet of rooftop space nationwide.

In Maryland, Solar Landscape’s community solar projects will generate savings through solar credits on the utility bills of 5,870 homes. Residents interested in subscribing to community solar can visit www.solarlandscape.com.
