Caroline Raffetto

SIOUX EMPIRE, SD — April 1 – Despite the lingering snow, road construction season has officially begun across South Dakota. One major project impacting motorists in Lincoln County has already commenced.

According to Dakota News Now, crews started work on Monday, March 31, on a significant road construction project along 285th Street between Highway 11 and 472nd Avenue, south of Worthing.

Project Details and Traffic Impact

Street crews are engaged in a full-depth reclamation, stabilization, and culvert replacement project. While certain sections of the road will remain accessible for local traffic and emergency responders, periodic hard closures will occur as work progresses.

Authorities will provide advance notice of road closures, allowing motorists to plan alternate routes.

South Dakota DOT to Provide Ongoing Updates

The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) will release updates on this and other road construction projects via their official website throughout the year.

This Lincoln County project is expected to take several months, with construction continuing intermittently throughout 2024. As with many other infrastructure projects in the state, completion is anticipated before the end of the year.

Road Construction Challenges in South Dakota

With the arrival of spring, summer, and fall, South Dakota’s roads undergo significant repairs and upgrades. Infrastructure improvements are necessary to maintain road quality, but they also present challenges for commuters.

Drivers are encouraged to stay informed about detours, lane closures, and alternate routes to minimize disruptions.

For further details and ongoing project updates, residents should check the SDDOT website and follow official public notifications regarding roadwork schedules.
