EWC Launches Construction Technology Program in Fall 2025

DOUGLAS — Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) is set to introduce a new Construction Technology program in Fall 2025, aiming to address the growing housing and infrastructure needs in Converse County. The program will be housed at the college’s Douglas Campus and will serve as a key resource for developing a skilled workforce in the region.
EWC leaders, alongside community members and construction industry partners, will celebrate the launch with an official kickoff event on Tuesday, April 29. The event will feature industry supporters and provide a networking opportunity for local businesses and community members.

As Converse County grapples with a persistent housing crisis driven by an influx of workers in the oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors, the need for skilled labor to construct both long-term and short-term housing solutions has never been more urgent. EWC’s new program is a direct response to this need, aiming to prepare students for careers that will directly impact the county’s growth and help alleviate the housing shortage.
“The lack of skilled labor has been one of the biggest barriers to meeting our housing demands,” said a representative from the college. “By investing in workforce development through this program, we’re not only addressing the housing crisis but also creating a pathway for future generations to thrive in this growing industry.”
In addition to supporting the housing market, the program will also enhance infrastructure development, which is crucial for business and industry expansion in the region. The program is designed to equip students with the skills needed for a wide range of construction roles, from residential building to commercial projects, ensuring that the community has access to a well-trained workforce.
The event on April 29 will also include a dinner and networking session to further connect local business owners with the program and explore ways to collaborate. EWC is actively encouraging community members to attend and learn about the benefits of the new program, which will be a vital resource for both current and future industry needs.
“The construction sector is the backbone of our community’s growth,” said another EWC spokesperson. “With this program, we are laying the foundation for a better future, one that is built on well-educated professionals who are ready to meet the demands of our expanding workforce.”
EWC is committed to ensuring the program meets the evolving needs of the community, which include providing graduates with industry-recognized credentials that enhance employability and career growth. The college will offer courses covering a wide range of topics, including materials handling, construction equipment, architectural and construction planning, engineering graphics, surveying, electrical code, residential plumbing, and more. These courses will help students build foundational skills for a successful career in construction technology and ensure the community is well-equipped to address future challenges.
The program’s long-term impact will extend beyond just job creation. By fostering a skilled workforce, EWC’s Construction Technology program will help improve the quality of life in Wyoming, supporting the building of homes and infrastructure that will benefit local residents for generations to come.
In addition to addressing the current labor shortage, the program will also empower students to take on leadership roles in their communities and industries. The goal is to produce graduates who not only possess technical expertise but also the communication and problem-solving skills needed to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the construction sector.
