LANSING, Mich. — A construction worker was injured Monday around noon while on the job near US-127 and Trowbridge Road, an area currently undergoing infrastructure improvements.
According to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), the injured individual is an employee of Toebe Construction, a contractor involved in the ongoing work near the highway and adjacent railroad tracks. The exact nature of the construction project has not been disclosed, but MDOT confirmed that the worker was part of an active crew operating near the railroad at the time of the incident.

A reporter from 6 News visited the scene shortly after the incident was reported and observed a large beam lying across the nearby railroad tracks. It’s currently unclear whether the beam caused the injury or was involved in the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have yet to release the name or age of the injured worker, and details about the extent of their injuries remain unknown. Emergency responders were reportedly dispatched promptly, and the worker was transported from the scene for medical evaluation.
The railroad company that owns the tracks near the site has been contacted by 6 News for a statement, though no official response has been received at this time.
MDOT stated the “incident is under investigation”, and it remains unclear whether the injury resulted from equipment malfunction, human error, or other site hazards. Construction zones, especially those near active rail lines and highways, pose a variety of risks including heavy machinery, structural elements, and transportation logistics.
Toebe Construction, headquartered in Wixom, Michigan, has a long history of working on infrastructure projects across the state. The company has not issued a public comment regarding the incident as of Tuesday morning.
This injury highlights the ongoing safety challenges faced by construction workers nationwide, particularly those working in high-risk zones near traffic or railway infrastructure. OSHA and other regulatory bodies may become involved depending on the outcome of MDOT’s findings.
Additional updates are expected as more details become available about the worker’s condition and the circumstances leading to the injury.
