WASHINGTON, D.C. — Turner Construction Company has officially celebrated the opening of the $337 million Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center, a state-of-the-art hospital set to transform healthcare delivery in Southeast Washington, D.C.

The expansive six-story, 363,441-square-foot acute care hospital is now one of the region’s most advanced medical facilities, offering an array of essential services. These include general surgery, trauma care, behavioral health, and a comprehensive maternal health and labor and delivery program—all designed to bring care closer to the communities that have long faced healthcare disparities.

“Delivering this transformative healthcare facility has been a tremendous honor for our team,” said Darien Grant, Vice President and General Manager at Turner Construction Company. “From day one, we’ve been committed to building more than a hospital, aiming to support the community—create jobs, invest in the workforce, and ensure this project reflects the values and needs of the people it serves.”

The broader medical campus also features a 75,000-square-foot, four-story outpatient center, as well as a 145,000-square-foot parking garage with space for 500 vehicles. This integrated approach provides streamlined access to outpatient and emergency care, reinforcing the hospital’s role as a central health hub for the region.

“Cedar Hill will change the trajectory of health care in our community,” said Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. “This is a first-class hospital staffed by some of the most prestigious health institutions in the world. Families will be able to receive prenatal care, and welcome new babies close to home, seniors and residents will have access to the specialists they need, and trauma patients will receive lifesaving care quickly. Today, I am incredibly grateful for all the teams and people who worked with us to make this happen and I am hopeful about the future of health care in DC.”

Beyond healthcare services, Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center was built with equity and environmental responsibility in mind. The project created more than 2,300 construction-related jobs, including over 300 local hires from D.C.’s Wards 5, 7, and 8—neighborhoods often underrepresented in large-scale development projects.

The medical center is also on track for LEED Silver certification, a testament to Turner’s commitment to sustainable construction. The building incorporates environmentally friendly practices that include energy-efficient systems and sustainable materials, helping reduce its long-term carbon footprint.

With this milestone, city leaders, healthcare professionals, and residents alike are hopeful that Cedar Hill will serve as a model for future healthcare developments—ones that combine advanced clinical capabilities with a deep commitment to community investment.
