Turner Construction, a prominent New York-based contractor, has landed a $2 billion contract to expand Vantage Data Centers’ campus in New Albany, Ohio. The project marks a significant investment in the region’s growing data center industry, which continues to thrive despite delays in other construction sectors.

The planned expansion will add more than 1.5 million square feet of infrastructure designed to support cloud computing and artificial intelligence technologies. The site, spanning approximately 70 acres, will also provide 192 megawatts of power capacity to meet increasing demand in the region.

“We are excited to work with Vantage on this significant project,” said Matt Kunz, vice president and general manager of Turner Construction. “More than $2 billion will be invested in the campus over the next few years as they meet the need for the increased demand for scalable and sustainable digital infrastructure in the region.”

The project is set to meet ambitious sustainability targets, with plans for LEED Silver certification and a commitment to net-zero operational carbon emissions by 2030 across Vantage’s global portfolio.

“Ohio is a strategic market for us and our hyperscale customers, and we appreciate the warm welcome we’ve received from business, government, and community leaders,” commented Dana Adams, president of Vantage Data Centers. “Our investment in New Albany will further strengthen the state’s economy and its reputation as a hub for technology and innovation.”

Turner expects the first building to open in 2025, according to the release.

This latest $2 billion investment adds to the momentum of data center development in New Albany. In October 2023, QTS Data Centers, a subsidiary of Blackstone, revealed a $1.5 billion investment to build four data center facilities in the city. Additionally, Amazon committed $3.5 billion in September 2023 to develop new data centers in New Albany. Google also announced an additional $1.7 billion in August 2023 to expand its data center presence in Ohio, including its facility in New Albany. Intel further bolstered the area's tech credentials by selecting New Albany for its $20 billion semiconductor fabrication plant, which is set to transform the region’s economy.
