Turner Construction Company, in partnership with The Weitz Company, has reached a significant milestone in the $445 million expansion of Des Moines International Airport, celebrating the topping out of the project. The event featured a traditional beam signing, symbolizing the collaborative efforts of the team and the community. Local leaders, project partners, and members of the joint venture gathered to commemorate this achievement.

The expansion will modernize and enhance the airport, adding six new gates to increase the total from 12 to 18. It will also improve the overall traveler experience with upgraded security checkpoints, expanded gate operations, advanced baggage handling systems, and new dining and retail options. These improvements aim to elevate Des Moines as a top destination for both business and leisure travelers.

“This is a very exciting milestone for the entire team and the Des Moines community,” said Zachary Loy, Vice President and General Manager of Turner Construction Company. “This expansion project will not only improve the travel experience but also reflect the city’s growth and vibrancy. We are proud to collaborate with the Des Moines Airport Authority, The Weitz Company, and local stakeholders to create an enhanced gateway that leaves a lasting impression on visitors.”

Phase one of the $445 million project is scheduled for completion in 2026, with demolition and renovation continuing through 2027.
