Chanen Names Dean Howard to Spearhead Growth Following Merger with Dick Anderson Construction.

Phoenix-based commercial contractor Chanen Construction has announced the appointment of Dean Howard as vice president of business development to steer the newly merged entity, according to a news release shared with Construction Dive on October 9.

Last year, Chanen was acquired by Dick Anderson Construction, based in Helena, Montana. The acquisition aims to facilitate expansion beyond its home region and into the commercial, industrial, and infrastructure sectors in Phoenix and the Southwest.

In his new role, Howard will collaborate closely with Steve Chanen, president and CEO of Chanen, and Marty Schuma, president and CEO of Dick Anderson, to integrate the building expertise of both firms. Chanen will continue its focus on commercial projects, including the ongoing development of Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois, which encompasses classroom and lab spaces, as well as the expansion of the Phoenix Theatre, featuring a new 500-seat building and additional facilities. “I’m excited at the opportunity to utilize my relationships and unique skill set to be a part of continuing to build Chanen’s multi-decade legacy as one of the premier builders in Arizona,” Howard stated in the release.

Howard brings a wealth of experience from his previous roles, including director of business development at Alston Construction in Sacramento, California, vice president of business development at Hill International in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, and business development manager at Rosendin Electric in San Jose, California, as noted on his LinkedIn profile.

Before entering the construction industry, Howard spent 25 years working as a lobbyist in public affairs and held various roles related to economic development and finance for the city of Phoenix and the city of Goodyear, Arizona. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Arizona State University, according to LinkedIn.
