Databank Secures $2 Billion for Major Data Center Expansion

Caroline Raffetto

Databank, a Dallas-based colocation data center provider, has announced the acquisition of $2 billion in funding aimed at advancing its significant expansion projects, according to a news release dated October 15.

The funds will facilitate the construction of three new data center campuses: a 480-megawatt facility in Dallas, a 192-megawatt facility in Culpeper, Virginia, and a 120-megawatt campus in Atlanta. These developments, along with expansions in other markets, will enhance Databank’s power portfolio by adding 850 megawatts, effectively tripling its current capacity for AI and cloud technology workloads.

Databank’s expansion strategy comes at a time when the construction industry faces increasing demands to complete complex, large-scale projects on schedule, particularly in light of ongoing supply chain and labor challenges. This trend is expected to grow as the demand for AI and hyperscale cloud services continues to rise.

The planned Dallas facility underscores Texas’ emerging role as a central hub for tech infrastructure. Rogers–O’Brien Construction, based in Dallas, has been appointed as the general contractor for this project.

Phase 1 of the Dallas development will include four buildings and a 400-megawatt substation, which is capable of delivering up to 240 megawatts of critical IT power. Phase 2 will expand the total capacity to 480 megawatts across eight buildings. Databank anticipates that the campus will be operational by the third quarter of 2026.

In Culpeper, Virginia, Databank is developing an 85-acre campus designed to host up to three facilities, encompassing approximately 1.4 million square feet. The general contractor for this project is AECOM Tishman, based in New York, with operations expected to commence in the first quarter of 2027.

The Atlanta campus will span 95 acres and is planned to accommodate two facilities with a combined data center space of about 1 million gross square feet. Birmingham, Alabama-based Brasfield & Gorrie has been selected as the general contractor, with the facility expected to begin operations in the second quarter of 2027.
