Baltimore’s Key Bridge rebuild opens to bidders

Construction Dive

June 4, 2024: Design-build teams can now submit proposals to rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge and reconnect the I-695 Baltimore Beltway, the Maryland Transportation Authority announced Friday. Proposals are due June 24.

The agency will select project teams in mid- to late summer, while project completion is slated for fall 2028, per the MTA. The authority is using a two-phase progressive design-build process in which the project designer and builder work side by side, resulting in greater efficiencies, according to the news release.

“Today marks a significant milestone in our efforts to rebuild the Key Bridge and make the Baltimore area whole again,” said Maryland Transportation Secretary Paul Wiedefeld in the release. “MDOT will continue to work closely with our local, state and federal partners as well as local communities to replace the Key Bridge as quickly and safely as possible.”
