Balfour Beatty Launches New Affinity Group for Veterans

Caroline Raffetto

In honor of Veterans Day, Balfour Beatty has unveiled a new employee affinity group aimed at supporting veterans, reservists, military members, and their allies within the company.

The creation of BRAVE (Buildings Relentless Alliances for Veteran Employees) is a major milestone in the company’s ongoing effort to support military veterans and their families, particularly in the construction sector.

To mark the occasion, employees from across the company gathered to pay tribute to veterans and learn about the objectives of BRAVE. During the event, a panel of founding members shared their insights into the group’s potential impact within the organization.

“As a retired Army soldier, this commitment to foster connections for employees with shared experiences is admirable,” said Ty McPhillips, vice president of project management and BRAVE's national lead. “When I started my career, I never imagined I would serve more than twenty years in uniform and now as I approach eighteen years with Balfour Beatty, I am equally amazed with energetic commitment to making BRAVE a success.”

BRAVE becomes the sixth employee affinity group at Balfour Beatty, joining Building PRIDE, Connecting Women, NOBLE, REGAL, and Somos. This initiative underscores Balfour Beatty's dedication to its People-first Culture, which aims to create inclusive spaces where employees can bring their whole selves to work while appreciating the diverse perspectives and expertise they each offer.

“The launch of BRAVE represents a significant milestone in our journey to create authentic spaces where every employee can thrive,” said Michelle Reiner, vice president for California and chair of the National DE&I Committee. “This network represents not just our gratitude for the service of our employee veterans and active military members, but our investment in their continued success in the construction industry.”
