Motorists in Ashland County should be aware of several upcoming construction projects that will impact roadways over the next few weeks. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) advises that all work is weather permitting and subject to change.

Here's a breakdown of the major projects:

• U.S. Route 42 Bridge Replacement: Starting July 8th, expect single-lane closures with temporary traffic signals on U.S. Route 42 between SR 89 and Township Road 553 for a bridge replacement project. Lane widths will be reduced to 10 feet through the work zone. The project is expected to be completed by October 2024.
• U.S. Route 42 & State Route 302 Intersection Improvement: Construction continues at the U.S. 42 and SR 302 intersection, which is being converted into a single-lane roundabout. Eastbound SR 302 remains closed from U.S. 42 to Township Road 251/1080. Local traffic can access SR 302 from westbound only. A detour route is available for all other motorists. This phase of construction is expected to be completed by August 2024, with the entire project wrapping up in October 2024.
• Interstate 71 Bridge Repairs: Bridge repairs are ongoing on I-71 at various locations between U.S. 30 and SR 301. Expect single-lane closures in both directions. Traffic will be maintained at all times during construction, which is slated for completion by September 2024.
• State Route 89 & State Route 302 Intersection Improvement: The SR 89 and SR 302 intersection is currently closed for 60 days to construct a single-lane roundabout. Local detour routes are available, with a separate detour for non-local traffic. Phase 2 of this project is expected to be completed by August 2nd, 2024, with the entire project wrapping up in October 2024.
