The Wounded Workforce Launches Construction Mental Health Certification
First-of-Its-Kind Mental Health Certification Designed for the Construction Industry.
PHOENIX, AZ — The Wounded Workforce is excited to introduce its groundbreaking certification program, Building Resilience-Construction Mental Health Certification. Launched in November 2024, this pioneering program is the first to specifically address mental health in the construction industry, offering professionals the tools to tackle mental health challenges, suicide prevention, substance abuse, and proactive mental health care on and off the job.
“Construction faces some of the highest rates of mental health challenges of any industry, including instances of suicide and substance abuse,” said Stephanie Lemek, Founder and CEO. “Yet, until now, there hasn’t been a comprehensive mental health program tailored specifically to the industry’s unique needs. Building Resilience is more than a certification—it’s a movement toward creating safer, more supportive workplaces in construction.”
This half-day, in-person certification equips participants with practical strategies and knowledge to:
Foster Mental Health Awareness
Learn about mental health challenges specific to the construction industry.
Prevent Suicide
Recognize warning signs and build proactive support systems.
Address Substance Abuse
Reduce stigma and promote help-seeking behaviors, with guidance on overdose response and Naloxone (Narcan) use.
Cultivate Resilience
Strengthen self-care practices and create sustainable workforce well-being aligned with the demands of construction.
Developed and piloted by experienced construction professionals, Building Resilience is tailored to meet the unique needs of the industry, from tradespeople to project managers. This certification is designed by construction professionals, for construction professionals.
Upon completing the program, participants will earn the Construction Mental Health Certification from The Wounded Workforce, signaling their commitment to mental health advocacy and enhanced safety practices.
“Construction professionals are resilient by nature. This certification honors that resilience while providing the education and tools necessary to navigate mental health challenges head-on,” said Lemek. “We’re helping individuals and companies take concrete steps to prioritize wellbeing and safety.”
The program has already generated significant interest for its 2025 sessions, with contractors, trade unions, and safety professionals recognizing the vital importance of mental health in construction. According to CDC data, construction workers are at higher risk for suicide, making targeted initiatives like Building Resilience essential. Early booking for 2025 sessions is encouraged.
