Skanska Recognized with Procore’s 2024 Groundbreaker Award for Innovation Excellence
NEW YORK, NY – Skanska, a global leader in construction and development, has been honored with Procore’s 2024 Groundbreaker Award in the Excellence in Innovation category. Procore Technologies, Inc., the leading provider of construction management software, established the Groundbreaker Awards to celebrate the companies, projects, and individuals who drive excellence within the construction industry.
This prestigious recognition further affirms Skanska’s role as an innovator and leader within the construction sector.
Skanska USA Building’s commitment to innovation is demonstrated through a series of transformative technologies and processes designed to advance the industry. Key areas of innovation include:
Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
Skanska fosters collaboration and problem-solving across projects through initiatives like the VDC Knowledge Network, Tech Concierge Network, TECHconnect Community, and Drone Network, enabling teams to share insights and implement scalable, technology-driven solutions.
AI-Powered Tools
Skanska has developed several in-house AI solutions, including the Operational Risk Sidekick, Safety Sidekick, and Skanska Sidekick. These AI tools, based on the GPT-4o model, provide real-time project insights, best practices, and crucial OSHA codes, improving decision-making and saving time in the field while protecting proprietary data.
Data-Informed Decision-Making
Skanska has introduced proprietary tools like Skanska Metriks® and the Project Health Dashboard. Metriks® optimizes budgets by utilizing historical data from the company’s extensive project portfolio, while the Project Health Dashboard provides real-time insights into financial, schedule, and safety data, improving cost certainty and proactively managing risks.
Emerging Technologies
To stay at the forefront of construction technology, Skanska implemented the Tech Enablement Process, which evaluates and integrates cutting-edge technologies, from VR headsets to 4D logistics software. Notably, their partnership with Resolve VR saved $1 million by eliminating rework on a New York healthcare project, while Dusty Robotics reduced project timelines by three weeks and minimized rework by 75%. Skanska also uses 360 Cameras, Thermal Imaging Drones, and DroneDeploy to enhance progress tracking, safety, and site documentation.
“We are incredibly proud and honored to receive this recognition,” said Anita Nelson, Chief Strategy Officer at Skanska USA Building. “At Skanska, innovation with impact is at the heart of everything we do, and we are constantly pushing boundaries to enhance how we build, work, collaborate, and deliver outstanding results for our clients, communities, and with partners like Procore.”
