Pioneering Healthcare Growth: Kiewit Development Takes Charge of Henry Ford Health's Major Expansion!

Detroit, MI: Henry Ford Health, a leading academic and integrated health system, is partnering with Henry Ford Health Energy Partners to develop a groundbreaking Central Energy Hub as part of its major hospital campus expansion project, Destination Grand.

This key component of the expansion will provide heating and cooling for the new hospital facilities through a hot and cold-water system. The Central Energy Hub's design prioritizes sustainability, incorporating advanced technologies like electrification, waste heat recovery, and digital energy management. This innovative approach aligns with Henry Ford Health's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

Henry Ford Health Energy Partners is a team led by Kiewit Development Company with construction expertise from Kiewit Power Constructors Co. and operational support from Veolia Energy Operating Services, LLC. This partnership ensures a seamless design-build and operation process for the Central Energy Hub.

"We're thrilled to collaborate with Henry Ford Health on their transformative expansion project," said Sam Chai, President at Kiewit Development Company. "Our team is dedicated to providing a cost-effective solution that prioritizes both functionality and sustainability. The project financing includes tax-exempt green bonds, further reflecting this commitment."

The issuance of these green bonds was facilitated by Provident Resources Group Inc., a national leader in managing projects across various sectors.

Veolia, a global leader in environmental services, will play a critical role in the project's long-term success.  "Veolia is excited to manage operations of the Central Energy Hub," said Patrick Schultz, CEO of Sustainable Industries and Buildings for Veolia North America. "By leveraging digital monitoring, predictive maintenance, and ongoing improvement initiatives, we aim to set a new standard for sustainable healthcare operations."

The project prioritizes inclusivity, with the Energy Partners team committed to engaging minority-owned, women-owned, and Detroit-based subcontractors. Construction on the Central Energy Hub is slated to begin later this year.
