Lehman-Roberts, a Granite company Drives Critical Infrastructure Upgrade in Memphis

WATSONVILLE, Calif. – Granite (NYSE:GVA) today announced a pivotal role for its subsidiary, Lehman-Roberts, in a transformative infrastructure project in Memphis, Tennessee. Selected as a subcontractor by Dement Construction Company, LLC, Lehman-Roberts will contribute significantly to the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) ongoing effort to modernize the intersection of Interstate 22, State Route 4 (SR 4), and U.S. Route 78.

This $21 million contract, slated for inclusion in Granite’s second-quarter CAP, is part of Phase 2 of the project. The broader initiative aims to alleviate chronic traffic congestion and bolster transportation efficiency by introducing additional lanes and overpasses along a two-mile stretch. Lehman-Roberts’ proven track record in the region, exemplified by the successful completion of Phase 1 from 2018 to 2023, underscores its expertise in delivering complex infrastructure projects.

The project’s strategic location near one of the Southeast's largest intermodal facilities, serving the BNSF railway, highlights its potential to significantly impact regional commerce and logistics.

"We are thrilled to be part of this vital infrastructure upgrade," said Patrick Nelson, President of Lehman-Roberts and Memphis Stone and Gravel. "Our strong partnership with TDOT and Dement Construction is a testament to our commitment to delivering exceptional results. This project not only enhances transportation but also supports economic growth in the region."

Lehman-Roberts will contribute approximately 178,000 tons of hot mix asphalt to the project. Additionally, Granite’s Memphis Stone & Gravel division will supply essential materials, including 2,600 tons of washed sand, 182,000 tons of clay gravel, and 32,000 tons of screened gravel from its DeSoto plant. This vertical integration demonstrates Granite’s comprehensive capabilities in the construction industry.

Construction is expected to commence in July 2024 and conclude in July 2028.
