KENILWORTH, N.J. — Doka, a global leader in formwork and scaffolding solutions, has become the first company in the industry to commit to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This significant step reflects Doka’s commitment to reducing emissions in line with scientific recommendations, aiming to limit global warming to 1.5°C (34.7°F).
The construction sector, responsible for approximately 37% of global greenhouse gas emissions, faces growing pressure to adopt sustainable practices. Doka sees this challenge not just as a responsibility but as an opportunity to build more resilient, sustainable business models.

Towards Net Zero
The SBTi commitment is a key element of Doka’s "Net Zero 2040" strategy. “Transitioning to net zero is complex, but by committing to the SBTi, we are demonstrating that sustainability is integral to our business,” says Robert Hauser, CEO of Doka. “Sustainable practices are the foundation of a competitive, futureproof construction industry.”
Ambitious Emission Reduction Goals
Doka has set ambitious goals to reduce its carbon footprint. By 2030, the company is committed to reducing Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions in line with the SBTi’s absolute reduction methodology. This means a minimum 42% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions, with Scope 3 emissions also reduced by 42%. “Our commitment to the SBTi demonstrates our dedication to reducing greenhouse gases not only within Doka but throughout our supply chain,” Hauser adds.

A Strong Sustainability Foundation
Doka’s sustainability efforts extend far beyond the SBTi commitment. The company has already made substantial progress in reducing emissions, such as transitioning to 100% renewable electricity at its Austrian headquarters. Additionally, Doka’s circular economy approach, including refurbishing formwork after each use, contributes to resource efficiency and lower environmental impact. Doka is also exploring low-carbon materials in its products and collaborating with industry leaders to promote sustainable practices like CO2-reduced concrete.
Doka’s innovation extends to the development of the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) for its portfolio of over 7,000 products. The company has co-developed the first industry-wide criteria for calculating the PCF of formwork and scaffolding, helping customers make evidence-based purchasing decisions that support environmental sustainability.
