BIXBY, OK — April 1 – A construction worker died on Monday morning after falling from the top platform of an active job site near Bixby City Hall, local officials confirmed. The tragic accident occurred at approximately 10 a.m. at a construction site located near E. 151st St. S. and N. Cabanis Avenue.

Emergency responders from Bixby Fire Department arrived at the scene and transported the critically injured worker to a nearby hospital. Sadly, the worker later succumbed to his injuries.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Incident at Iconik Bixby Construction Site

According to officials, the worker was part of a crew working on the Iconik Bixby apartment complex when he fell from the top platform of the scaffolding structure. The site is managed by Red Dog Construction, but the victim was employed by a brick masonry subcontractor, not by Red Dog itself.

The owner of Red Dog Construction confirmed that the worker was climbing scaffolding around the building when he fell at approximately 10 a.m.

Red Dog Construction’s Statement

In response to the tragedy, Red Dog Construction issued the following statement:

"We are heartbroken to confirm that a tragic accident occurred at one of our job sites, resulting in the passing of a valued member of our team. Our deepest sympathies are with the individual’s family, friends, and coworkers during this incredibly difficult time.
We are fully cooperating with all relevant authorities as they conduct their investigation, and we are committed to supporting everyone affected by this loss. Out of respect for the family’s privacy and the integrity of the ongoing investigation, we will not be providing further comment at this time."

Investigation Underway

OSHA regulations require strict safety measures at construction sites, including proper fall protection equipment for workers operating at elevated heights. Investigators will determine if safety protocols were followed and whether any violations contributed to the fatal accident.

According to Bixby Police Chief Todd Blish, this incident is classified as an industrial accident, meaning no criminal activity is suspected.

“This was an industrial accident and not a crime, so OSHA is leading the investigation,” Blish said. His department is assisting by notifying the worker’s family, though the victim's name has not yet been released.

Workplace Safety and Previous Incidents

Falls from heights are one of the leading causes of construction site fatalities. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that falls account for nearly one-third of all fatal construction accidents each year. OSHA's investigation will focus on whether the proper safety harnesses, guardrails, or other protective measures were in place at the time of the fall.

This incident adds to a growing number of construction-related fatalities nationwide, underscoring the critical need for improved worker safety and compliance with federal regulations.

Next Steps and Support for the Worker’s Family

OSHA officials will conduct a thorough site inspection, interview witnesses, and review safety procedures to determine if any workplace violations occurred. The agency has the authority to issue fines, citations, or mandates for corrective action if safety lapses are found.

The victim’s identity has not yet been disclosed, pending notification of next of kin.

Local labor unions and workplace safety advocates are urging enhanced safety protocols to prevent similar incidents.

The tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the dangers construction workers face daily and the importance of adhering to strict safety standards to protect lives on job sites.
