Washington Issues Over $16M in New Residential Permits

Caroline Raffetto

In December, Washington issued 17 new residential construction permits, with a total value exceeding $16.7 million — nearly $4 million more than the previous month and a significant increase from the single $361,292.50 permit granted in December 2023.

In addition, an $800,000 permit for a mixed-use development, which will include both residential and commercial units at 800 Jefferson St., marked another rise from last year, when no new commercial construction permits were issued in December 2023.

However, this was a decrease from November, when a $3.5 million permit was granted to demolish an existing building and construct a new gas station at the intersection of Highway 100 and Bluff Road.

Washington also issued two commercial alteration or repair permits totaling $366,250 in December, an increase from the previous month’s $250,000 permit, and the two permits totaling $300,000 issued in December 2023.

In the residential addition category, two permits were granted in December, totaling $210,000. This was a shift from November, which saw no permits in this category, but an increase from December 2023, which had one residential addition permit valued at $200,000.

Two residential alteration or repair permits totaling $248,000 were also issued in December 2024, a decrease from the eight permits worth $654,000 issued in November, but a rise from three permits totaling $155,000 in December 2023.

Finally, Washington issued four residential solar permits worth $143,177.83, up from two permits valued at $58,614 in November, and none in this category last December.
