From highway expansions to enhanced pedestrian pathways, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is preparing for a robust construction season aimed at improving the state's transportation network.

UDOT announced this week that 152 new projects—totaling $1.68 billion—will begin this year, with an additional 145 projects carrying over from last year’s schedule. The upgrades range from repaving and widening roads to constructing new interchanges, bridges, transit routes, and trail systems.

“Every day, Utahns are out driving to work, picking up kids, heading to the mountains or just getting where they need to go,” said Lisa Wilson, UDOT Deputy Director. “Our job is to make sure those trips are as safe and smooth as possible. These projects might cause some short-term delays, but in the long run, they’ll mean better roads, less congestion and a safer and more reliable way to get around — no matter how you travel.”

Among the major projects breaking ground in 2025:

  • Davis County – 1800 North and I-15 Interchange: A $385 million project to build a new interchange, widen 1800 North, and improve access for future development near Hill Air Force Base. Completion is expected in fall 2027.
  • Weber County – I-84 Bridge Replacements: A $52 million replacement of bridges over the Weber River and Union Pacific tracks. Construction is underway and will take approximately two years.
  • Salt Lake County – I-215 and Connecting Roads: A $190 million effort to repave I-215 and connecting ramps, repave 22 bridges, and install a new drainage system. Expected to begin this summer and last two years.
  • Tooele County – I-80 and SR-36 Widening: $38.4 million in improvements to add auxiliary lanes and reduce congestion. Completion is targeted for summer 2026.
  • Utah County – Geneva Road Expansion: A $34.4 million upgrade will widen lanes, add bike paths, and build pedestrian-friendly paths and sidewalks. Scheduled through fall 2026.
  • Wasatch County – US-189 Widening: A $53.1 million project to improve road capacity and safety in Provo Canyon, including a new signal and wildlife measures. Work wraps in late winter 2026.
  • Utah County – US-6 Improvements: A $59.9 million upgrade will widen the highway and improve drainage. Work starts this fall and continues for two years.
  • Duchesne County – US-191 Safety Upgrades: A $30.75 million project to add a passing lane and enhance safety features, wrapping by the end of 2026.
  • Iron County – I-15 Climbing Lane Project: A $90.3 million project to improve northbound traffic and add a roundabout near Exit 51. Completion is expected in December 2026.

Several ongoing major projects will also continue through 2025:

  • 5600 South Corridor Improvements: A $361 million overhaul of roads and interchanges in Roy and Riverdale.
  • Bangerter Highway Interchange Conversions: Four interchanges—at 9800 South, 13400 South, 2700 West, and 4700 South—are under construction as part of a $415.3 million effort to remove stoplights.
  • Midvalley Express BRT Line: UDOT is assisting UTA on a $104.1 million, all-electric bus rapid transit route with 15 stations and dedicated lanes.
  • Mountain View Corridor: A $466 million extension to connect Lehi to Herriman with wildlife protection features and multi-use trails.
  • SR-162 and SR-262 Paving: Ongoing work in San Juan County includes road improvements, fiber optic installation, and drainage upgrades totaling $152 million.
