Utah-Based Vivint Leads Charitable Initiative to Build 52 Homes in Guadalajara, Mexico
A charitable initiative led by Vivint, the Provo-based home security company, has resulted in the construction of 52 homes in Guadalajara, Mexico, benefiting over 300 people.
Vivint's Impactful Volunteer Effort Builds 52 Homes in Guadalajara
In October, Vivint, known for its home security and smart home systems, launched an initiative through its nonprofit arm, Vivint Gives Back, to build 52 homes for families in need in Guadalajara, one of Mexico's largest cities. The project, part of the company's "impact trip," saw 519 employees volunteering their time, including workers from Utah and other company locations across the United States.
Holly Mero, senior director of strategy, operational governance, and philanthropy for Vivint, reflected on the significance of the initiative: "This was our opportunity to serve a community in need and deliver safe, comfortable homes every family deserves."
The effort also included the installation of water systems, benefiting more than 300 people. Vivint’s volunteers, who covered their own travel expenses, were supported by around 100 local volunteers from a charitable organization in Mexico.
The company chose Guadalajara as the destination for this year’s initiative for multiple reasons, including the strong ties many of its employees have to the region. "Vivint selects the location of our annual impact trips based on community needs and the level of impact we can make as a company," the company explained. "Additionally, many of our employees have ties to Mexico and specifically Guadalajara."
The charitable initiative, funded by more than 3,000 Vivint employee donations, is part of Vivint's ongoing commitment to philanthropy. "While these impact trips are meaningful for the recipients, they are also a priceless opportunity to foster team building, give employees an opportunity to contribute to a greater cause and connect with the communities where we are serving," said Mero.
Vivint has previously worked on similar efforts in locations like Ghana, Miami, Mexico City, Philadelphia, and Peru, and has helped over 400,000 people through its Vivint Gives Back initiative, which has raised more than $30 million in donations. Vivint was acquired last year by NRG Energy, a Texas-based energy and home services company.
