Update on Sandy Ridge Racetrack Construction in Boyd County

Sandy’s Racing and Gaming in Boyd County, Kentucky, is undergoing significant development as crews work tirelessly to bring the Sandy Ridge Racetrack to life. The project marks an exciting new chapter for the region, as it will feature quarter horse racing, which focuses on fast, shorter-distance races—a departure from the more traditional thoroughbred racing like that seen in events such as the Kentucky Derby.
Prentice Salter, the CEO of Revolutionary Racing, which is overseeing the project, provided insights into the grand vision for the racetrack. The multi-million-dollar development is part of a broader plan for regional growth and future expansion. In the coming year, the racetrack is expected to host races, with horses speeding past the grandstands, creating an exhilarating experience for spectators.

Salter shared the long-term vision, stating, "A year from now, there will be horses running right past us… a clubhouse, facilities, and opportunities to host events up here, farmer’s markets. What we’re doing with Boyd County is a much larger picture. We envision a 390-acre entertainment zone, anchored by Sandy’s and Camp Landing, where we can potentially add a water park, a sports complex, and have racing 10 to 12 days a year. This will become a true entertainment complex and a major draw for the region."
The project began in earnest about seven months ago, and the racetrack is scheduled to open its gates in the spring of 2026. The completion of this facility will be a significant milestone in Kentucky's rich racing history, offering a unique form of entertainment while benefiting the local economy.
Prentice Salter also expressed his pride in the development, stating, "To get to this stage of the development and build a new racetrack in the state of Kentucky, it’s an honor and a privilege, and that’s something we don’t take lightly."
Beyond the racetrack, the facility will include expanded amenities like a clubhouse, event space, and potential for further entertainment facilities as the project grows. The racetrack is expected to inject new life into the Boyd County area, drawing visitors and increasing tourism with its blend of traditional racing and modern amenities.
The development of Sandy Ridge Racetrack aims to position Boyd County as a top destination for entertainment in the region, offering diverse activities beyond the racetrack, from sports complexes to community markets, enhancing the quality of life for both residents and visitors alike.
