A two-day conference in Bend, Oregon, will provide essential safety training for workers across residential, commercial, and industrial construction sectors, focusing on health and safety hazards, according to mycentraloregon.com.

The 22nd annual Mid-Oregon Construction Safety Summit will take place on January 27-28, 2025, at the Riverhouse Lodge Convention Center. Topics covered will include fall protection, ladders and scaffolds, excavation safety, electrical systems, communication, and protection against heat and wildfire smoke, with many sessions offered in Spanish.

In addition to these sessions, attendees will have the opportunity to take the OSHA 10-hour training for construction workers, as well as receive certification in work zone safety and flagging. Certifications and recertifications will be available, and attendees can also earn continuing education credits through Oregon's Construction Contractors Board and Landscape Contractors Board.

Oregon Occupational Safety and Health (Oregon OSHA), a division of the Department of Consumer and Business Services, encourages both employers and workers to attend the summit. Oregon OSHA is one of the event's key sponsors.

The summit's keynote presentation, "Champions of Safety: Unleashing the Lifesaving Power of Culture and Communication," will be delivered by Layla McGlone, founder of Building Excellence. McGlone will explore how a strong safety culture, driven by leadership, core values, and employee engagement, can significantly reduce workplace injuries.

Other summit sessions will include:

  • Preventing fall hazard exposures
  • Pre-task planning to strengthen safety
  • Hand and power tools and personal protective equipment
  • Health hazards in construction
  • Understanding Oregon OSHA and its inspection process
  • Supervisor's safety responsibilities
  • Underground line safety
  • Building a better safety culture
  • Defensive and safe driving
