U.S. Department of Labor Secures Over $1M in Back Wages for 43 Employees at Goose Creek Federal ContractorKBRwyle Technology Solutions Found to Have Paid Workers Less Than Required

GOOSE CREEK, SC – The U.S. Department of Labor has recovered $1,091,515 in back wages for 43 employees of a federal contractor based in Goose Creek, South Carolina, after discovering that the company paid workers lower wages than federally mandated.

An investigation by the department’s Wage and Hour Division revealed that KBRwyle Technology Solutions LLC, after acquiring Honeywell Technology Solutions Inc., altered the job titles of quality control inspectors from "supply technicians" to "technical instructors." Despite the title change, these employees continued to perform the same duties as quality control inspectors. However, the company paid them wages below the required prevailing rate, violating the McNamara-O’Hara Service Contract Act. Additionally, KBRwyle paid overtime at rates lower than required, in breach of the Contract Work Hours and Safety Standards Act.

“Federal contractors are required to comply with specific wage standards for work performed under federal contracts. It is essential that they pay employees the correct wages for the work they actually do,” said Jamie Benefiel, Wage and Hour Division District Director in Columbia, South Carolina. “The workers on these contracts play a vital role in supporting our country’s operations. We are committed to ensuring they receive every dollar they have earned.”

KBRwyle Technology Solutions LLC, a subsidiary of KBR—a global science, technology, and engineering firm headquartered in Houston—took over the U.S. Army logistical support contract initially awarded to Honeywell Technology Solutions. KBR employs approximately 35,000 people globally, with operations spanning more than 80 countries.
