Oregon Splash Pad Construction to Begin Despite $28K Shortfall

Caroline Raffetto

The Oregon-Brooklyn community is on the cusp of a major achievement as the Oregon Splash Pad project moves closer to breaking ground. With the goal of opening by the end of summer, the project has already raised an impressive $770,000, including $132,000 in the last three months alone. Though still $28,000 short of its $800,000 fundraising goal, the construction will proceed as planned.

The community’s ongoing fundraising efforts, along with additional grant applications, will cover the remaining amount. The project has benefitted from the support of 450 contributors, including local businesses, individuals, and fundraising events. Five grants have also supported the effort.

Located on the west side of the Oregon pool, the 6,000-square-foot splash pad will feature diverse water zones for children of all ages, shade structures for families, and an educational garden with a "history walk."

Organizers expressed their gratitude to the community, noting, “We wanted to build the Oregon Splash Pad for the community, by the community – and we succeeded! See you later this year at the Pad!”

Construction bids are expected to be finalized by the end of February, with work scheduled to start in late May or early June, and the splash pad expected to open by late summer.
