Ohio University Eastern is set to begin an exciting construction project in Shannon Hall during the upcoming winter break. The project will include important infrastructure upgrades and aesthetic improvements designed to enhance the building's functionality and appearance.

Lewatis McNeal, vice provost for regional higher education and partnerships, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This project reflects Ohio University’s dedication to providing state-of-the-art learning environments and a vibrant campus community."

David Rohall, dean of campus and community relations, emphasized that the upgrades are about more than just infrastructure, saying, “These improvements are not just about upgrading the building’s infrastructure; they’re about investing in spaces that foster learning and collaboration.”

The project will be completed in two phases. Phase one, beginning Dec. 16, 2024, will focus on the first floor, which will be closed through May 2025. During this time, students, faculty, and staff will need to access the building via the North Entrance. Phase two and three will focus on the second and third floors, with work set to take place from May to August 2025. The South Main Entrance will serve as the primary access point during these phases.

Critical upgrades will include improvements to the building's HVAC systems, lighting, and ceiling tiles. Adam Riehl, director of facilities management for regional higher education, shared, "This HVAC project will dramatically improve space comfort and operational efficiency," and added, "The replacement of ceilings and lighting is a major upgrade to the building aesthetics."

The university is investing $3.24 million in these improvements, underscoring Ohio University Eastern's commitment to providing a top-quality educational environment. Despite temporary closures and disruptions, the university is working to ensure minimal impact on students, staff, and faculty while completing this essential project.

As Jacob Horton, Ohio University Eastern’s manager of maintenance and operations, facilities management, put it, “Our team has worked diligently to ensure the project will be completed efficiently and with minimal disruption to the campus community."

These upgrades reflect Ohio University Eastern’s long-term commitment to providing students with modern, functional spaces that foster learning and collaboration, ensuring that Shannon Hall will continue to meet the needs of the campus community.
