Two major new facilities at Alabama A&M University are moving forward as the contractor has been selected for both the AAMU Science Building and the Student Amenities Center.

Freedom Real Estate and Capital has been chosen as the contractor for these projects, which have a combined value exceeding $140 million. Here are the details:

About the New Science Building at Alabama A&M

The new Science Building is part of Alabama A&M’s strategy to meet the rising demand for STEM careers and science majors.

The 125,000-square-foot building will feature classrooms and laboratories for the Physics, Biology, and Chemistry departments. These modern spaces will provide students and faculty with enhanced facilities for teaching, learning, and research. The building is designed to support the university's expanding STEM programs, fostering academic instruction and scientific discovery.

Together, we are committed to creating state-of-the-art facilities that will enhance our campus and support our students’ success for generations to come,” said Dr. Daniel K. Wims, president of Alabama A&M University.

More on the New Student Amenities Center

The new 93,000-square-foot Student Amenities Center will be a central hub for student engagement and support services on campus.

Key features of the building include:

  • A total cost of $58 million
  • Gathering spaces, centralized campus services, dining options, and student support offices
  • A strategic design that bridges East and West campuses across Meridian Street
  • Additional amenities such as a food court, flexible theater space, student services offices, the campus bookstore and merchandise shop, conference rooms, a game room, student governance offices, and outdoor pavilions

“This facility takes our student services to the next level and greatly improves our ability to attract and engage students. Students expect quality amenities and comfortable spaces to gather, study, and build community. The student amenities building addresses those needs while also centralizing many of the support and auxiliary services for students,” said Dr. Braque Talley, vice president of Student Affairs.

Construction on both of these new facilities is expected to begin shortly, with completion anticipated by the end of the year.
