Construction is in full swing at the Kentucky Derby Museum, where a $2.3 million renovation project is transforming the iconic 360° theater experience. This upgrade is focused on enhancing The Greatest Race, the museum’s renowned feature film that immerses viewers in the excitement of the Kentucky Derby.

The overhaul includes cutting-edge projection technology, an immersive surround soundtrack, atmospheric lighting, and dynamic effects, making it one of the most technologically advanced museum experiences in the world. The renovation also introduces fresh footage from the 2024 Kentucky Derby®, offering a current perspective on the thrilling race and the talented horses, jockeys, trainers, and owners who compete.

“By preserving the magic of the Derby and introducing innovative storytelling, this project ensures that the Kentucky Derby Museum continues to captivate future generations,” said Patrick Armstrong, the museum's President and CEO.

The new version of The Greatest Race will be a major highlight during the museum's 40th anniversary celebrations in 2025. Following its premiere for VIPs on April 10, 2025, the exhibit will be available to the public starting on April 11, included with general admission.

Thanks to the generous $1 million grant from the James Graham Brown Foundation, the museum is pushing the boundaries of immersive media experiences. The project showcases the museum’s commitment to educating, exciting, and engaging audiences with the rich history of the Kentucky Derby. The Kentucky Derby Museum is not just celebrating the past but ensuring that it remains a global destination for future generations.
