Jones Power Chosen for Civil Work on Two Arizona Solar Projects

Mississippi-based Jones Power has been selected by two utility-scale engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) firms to handle civil construction for two large-scale solar and battery energy storage projects in Arizona.

Jones Power's work will include tasks such as erosion control, clearing, grubbing, construction entrances, earthwork, access roads, laydown yards, and final seeding.

The projects, located near Phoenix and Tucson, will generate up to 290 MW of solar power and 1 GW of energy storage capacity upon completion. The civil construction work is slated for completion by 2025, with some phases at the Phoenix site continuing into 2026 or 2027.

In addition, Jones Power is utilizing the Power Forward apprenticeship program, a two-to-three-year initiative combining classroom and on-the-job training. This program will help meet the Inflation Reduction Act's prevailing wage and apprenticeship standards, allowing the projects to qualify for the 30% Investment Tax Credit.

To support the projects, Jones Power will provide a post-civil site maintenance crew to remain onsite throughout subsequent phases, including pile driving, racking, module installation, electrical work, and commissioning. The crew will manage road upkeep, erosion control, dust management, mowing, and other essential services to ensure project success.

“We’re pleased to secure repeat business with two very important clients as we expand our footprint of experience in Arizona on these two high-profile projects,” said John Clark, CEO of Jones Power.

Arizona currently has nearly 10 GW of solar power installed, with projections from the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) suggesting the state will more than double that capacity, adding 12.6 GW over the next five years. Solar currently accounts for about 12.7% of Arizona's electricity supply.
