Georgia DOT Awards $7.5M Resurfacing Project on SR 20
ATLANTA — In October 2024, the Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) awarded 23 statewide projects, including a major resurfacing project on State Route 20, stretching from south of SR 124 to southwest of Covington Street in Gwinnett and Walton Counties, valued at $7.5 million.
The largest investment, worth about $21 million, is allocated for the construction of a bridge and its approaches on US 41/SR 11/SR 49 over the Norfolk Southern Railway, covering 1.003 miles. This contract, along with three others, accounts for 40% of the total funds awarded in October.
Approximately $33.1 million was set aside for 11 resurfacing projects. The largest resurfacing project, valued at $7.5 million, is the SR 20 stretch in Gwinnett and Walton counties. The second-largest resurfacing contract, at $4.4 million, will cover 4.628 miles of work on US 1/SR in Richmond County.
Bridge rehabilitation projects received about $6.6 million, representing 9% of the total awarded funds, targeting locations in Douglas, Fulton, and Lamar counties.
A roundabout construction project in Chattahoochee County received $4.3 million, covering the intersection of SR 1 and US 27/US 280/SR 520.
The remaining 2%, or $1.5 million, will fund four safety improvement projects, including widening for turn lanes on SR 101 in Carroll County.
