ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has awarded 23 construction contracts for various transportation projects across the state in October 2024. These projects include bridge rehabilitation, resurfacing, safety improvements, and new bridge construction.
The largest investment, amounting to around $21 million, is designated for a bridge construction project involving the construction of a bridge and approaches along 1.003 miles of US 41/SR 11/SR 49 over the Norfolk Southern Railway. This project, along with three others, accounts for 40% of the total funds awarded this month.
In total, approximately $33.1 million was allocated for 11 resurfacing projects. The largest resurfacing project, valued at about $7.5 million, will involve 9.537 miles of milling and resurfacing on SR 20, south of SR 124 to southwest of Covington Street in Gwinnett and Walton counties. The second-largest resurfacing contract, worth $4.4 million, will focus on 4.628 miles of milling, resurfacing, and shoulder rehabilitation on US 1/SR, north of South Prong Creek in Richmond County.
The state has also allocated $6.6 million, or 9% of the total funds, for bridge rehabilitation projects, which will be implemented at various locations in Douglas, Fulton, and Lamar counties.
A project in Chattahoochee County, focusing on the construction of a roundabout at key intersections, is set to receive $4.3 million, or 6% of the total award.
Additionally, safety improvement projects across the state will receive approximately $1.5 million, making up 2% of the total allocation. The largest safety project involves the widening of turn lanes at SR 101 (Rockmart Road) at Old Draketown Trail in Carroll County.
These awards bring the total construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2024 to $802 million, including TIA, Design-Bid-Build, and locally administered projects. For more information on bidding, contractors must prequalify with Georgia DOT.
“We are pleased to announce these significant investments to improve transportation infrastructure throughout Georgia,” said Georgia DOT officials. “These projects are essential for enhancing safety, mobility, and efficiency across the state.”
