FAA Invests $428 Million in Airport Infrastructure Boost

Caroline Raffetto

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced a significant injection of funds into airport infrastructure across the nation. Through the Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program, a total of $427.9 million will be distributed to 245 projects spanning 39 states. These funds, allocated from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) or Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), are part of a broader $25 billion commitment to enhance airport terminals, baggage systems, air traffic infrastructure, and runway safety.

The AIG is one of three programs established by the BIL to support aviation-related initiatives. To date, the FAA has disbursed nearly $9 billion of the allocated $15 billion for AIG projects.

Leading the charge is Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, securing the largest award of approximately $77.7 million for a terminal expansion project. This week marked the groundbreaking ceremony for the $404 million, 230,000-square-foot Terminal 5, slated for completion in mid-2026. The new terminal will feature modern amenities, increased capacity, and improved passenger experience.

Other notable recipients include John Glenn Columbus International Airport, Southwest Florida International Airport, Buffalo Niagara International Airport, San Jose Mineta International Airport, Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport, Hector International Airport, El Paso International Airport, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, with projects ranging from terminal expansions and runway rehabilitation to taxiway construction and apron improvements.
