Encompass Health has revealed plans to build a new inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Bangor, Maine, aimed at supporting patients recovering from serious illnesses and injuries. The 50-bed, freestanding facility will be located at 1017 Union Street and is expected to open in 2027. This will mark Encompass Health’s second hospital in Maine.
The hospital will specialize in treating patients with neurological disorders, brain and spinal cord injuries, strokes, amputations, complex orthopedic conditions, and more. In addition to 24-hour nursing care, the facility will offer a wide range of therapies to aid in recovery.
Pat Tuer, president of Encompass Health Group, commented, “We are excited to expand Encompass Health’s presence in Maine to serve patients in Bangor and surrounding communities closer to home. We look forward to providing high-quality, compassionate, and individualized inpatient rehabilitative care to help patients reach their highest level of independence.”
The new facility will feature private patient rooms, a therapy gym with advanced rehabilitation technologies, and a daily living activities suite. It will also include an in-house dialysis suite, pharmacy, dining room, and therapy courtyard.
Once completed, the hospital will become part of Encompass Health’s nationwide network, which includes 166 hospitals across 38 states and Puerto Rico.
