Eastern Wyoming College Launches Construction Tech Program in Douglas

DOUGLAS, Wyo. — In response to the growing demand for skilled labor in Converse County, Eastern Wyoming College (EWC) has announced the launch of a new Construction Technology Program, set to begin this fall at the college’s Douglas campus. The initiative aims to provide essential workforce training to support the region’s housing and infrastructure needs.

College officials, community leaders, and industry supporters will formally celebrate the launch during a kickoff event on April 29 at the Douglas campus. The evening will feature networking opportunities, dinner, and participation from several construction industry partners. The event begins at 5 p.m. at 800 S. Wind River Drive. Attendees are asked to RSVP by April 22 by contacting Lisa Johnson, Executive Director of the EWC Foundation, at 307-534-5410 or foundation@ewc.wy.edu.

The new program is a strategic response to a persistent housing crisis in the region. Driven largely by an influx of energy-sector workers in oil, gas, and renewable energy, Converse County has experienced a surge in housing demand that far outpaces supply.

“A significant factor contributing to this housing shortage is the lack of skilled labor available to build long-term and short-term housing solutions,” the college said in a news release.

By launching the Construction Technology Program, EWC aims to tackle this issue head-on through investment in workforce development. The program will train students in hands-on construction skills, preparing them to meet both immediate and long-term needs in residential and commercial building projects.

“By investing in workforce development, EWC’s Construction Technology Program will directly increase the county’s capacity to build much-needed homes and infrastructure while also providing a skilled workforce for current business and industry growth and expansion,” the college said.

The initiative aligns with broader workforce strategies across Wyoming to support economic growth and attract new industries while ensuring local residents have opportunities for career development. EWC’s approach emphasizes partnerships with local contractors, trade groups, and energy companies to tailor training that meets real-world demands.

Additional program details, including curriculum structure, faculty leadership, and enrollment information, are expected to be shared at the April 29 event.

For more updates about the program, visit EWC’s official website or follow the college on social media.
