The City of Willmar released its Monthly External Permits Report for December 2024, detailing a total of 48 building, mechanical, and plumbing permits. These permits amounted to a combined valuation of $2,968,272.

Among the permits issued, one was for the construction of the Clean Chickens goat processing plant at 500 32nd St. S.W. in Willmar. This permit, valued at $1,696,068, supports the creation of the new facility, which had its groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 24, 2024. Marcus Construction will carry out the construction.

A second permit for the same location, valued at $250,000, covers the installation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and plumbing for the building. Lake Country Mechanical, based in Spicer, will handle these installations.

The goat processing plant, named Happy Halal, is projected to cost around $3.5 million to complete, as reported previously by the West Central Tribune. Once finished, the plant will provide goat and lamb meat processed according to halal practices, catering to Muslim communities in the region who have limited access to halal meats.

Two additional permits were granted to United Community Action Partnership, a nonprofit operating in Willmar since 1966.
