Construction Begins on Blue Whale Park Redevelopment in Catoosa

CATOOSA, Okla. — Construction has officially kicked off for the Blue Whale Park redevelopment project in Catoosa, marking the beginning of an exciting transformation for this iconic landmark.

As previously reported by FOX23 in August, the park has received a significant funding boost from the Oklahoma Route 66 Commission to support its redesign and restoration efforts.
"As one of the recipients of the Route 66 Grant, Blue Whale Park will soon be undergoing an exciting update and redesign project," said the Blue Whale of Catoosa on its official Facebook page.
The redevelopment project officially began on Monday, and plans for the park’s improvements are already in motion. The beloved Ark at the park will be disassembled and stored for future relocation, while the park's iconic mushrooms will be temporarily removed and housed off-site for refurbishment.
"These small endeavors are just the beginning in what will be an amazing year for Blue Whale Park," the Facebook post continued.
The redevelopment is set to breathe new life into Blue Whale Park, making it an even more attractive destination for locals and tourists along Route 66. Once completed, the project will preserve the park's unique charm while ensuring its longevity for future generations to enjoy.
Additional Details and Future Plans
In addition to the removal and refurbishment of the Ark and mushrooms, further updates to the park’s infrastructure and amenities are anticipated. These renovations aim to preserve the nostalgic appeal of the iconic Blue Whale while providing modern enhancements for visitors. The ongoing project is expected to include new landscaping, upgraded facilities, and potential improvements to the surrounding area to create a more accessible and vibrant experience for everyone.
The Blue Whale of Catoosa has long been a key symbol of the area’s Route 66 heritage. With these developments, the park is poised to continue attracting visitors from across the country, helping to preserve the cultural significance of this roadside attraction for years to come.
