COLORADO SPRINGS — Mayor Yemi Mobolade held a press conference on Thursday, March 20, to provide updates on a variety of infrastructure and road construction projects slated for this summer across Colorado Springs.
During the conference, the mayor shared that the city has already received over 800 requests this year alone for pothole repairs. "Our crews have already filled more than 16,000 potholes to date," he said, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to address the city’s road conditions.

Despite the significant progress, Mayor Mobolade noted that pothole repairs are merely a temporary fix. The city's long-term solution is the comprehensive repaving of roads, which is supported by the 2C road improvement program.
“The infrastructure improvements have been going on for quite a while, whether it’s PPRTA or 2C… I think weather is warming up. We’re continuing to work on that. So you’ll see more, more of that,” said Travis Easton, Deputy Chief of Staff for Infrastructure and Development.
Key Infrastructure and Road Improvements
This summer, the city will focus on major improvements to roads including Oro Blanco Drive, Flying W Ranch Road, Cheyenne Boulevard, and South Chelton Road. The mayor also mentioned that neighborhoods that had concrete work done last year should expect road improvements to follow this year.
One of the most anticipated projects, the downtown Tejon Street revitalization, is set to begin next week, and a number of other active projects will continue throughout the city.
Mayor Mobolade also provided an update on other ongoing infrastructure improvements: “We are making significant progress on major infrastructure projects, including the ongoing reconstruction of Academy Boulevard and the replacement of Circle Drive bridges,” he said. "In just the first three months of this year, we have made great strides in the widening of Marksheffel Road, and I’m pleased to share that Dublin Boulevard is nearing its final engineering stage with construction to begin later this year."
Community Engagement on Parks and Recreation
In addition to road projects, city officials discussed plans to update the parks system master plan. Throughout the summer, there will be opportunities for community members to provide input on the future of parks and recreation in Colorado Springs. "We’re eager to hear from the community, and we encourage residents to visit the City’s website for more information on how to get involved," officials said.
A Focus on Patience and Progress
As the construction projects move forward, Mayor Mobolade thanked residents for their continued patience. "We know that construction can be inconvenient at times, but these improvements will benefit everyone in the long run," he added.
Looking Ahead: A Vision for the Future
With summer just around the corner, Colorado Springs is preparing for an influx of construction projects aimed at improving the city’s infrastructure. These efforts not only focus on roads but also aim to enhance the quality of life for residents by modernizing public spaces and bolstering the city's parks and recreational offerings.
The City of Colorado Springs is dedicated to creating a more connected, efficient, and enjoyable environment for its residents, and these efforts are just the beginning of a broader vision for the future. Keep an eye on local updates and the city’s website to stay informed about ongoing and upcoming projects.
