Champion Homes Opens Twin Lakes to Tackle Florida’s Housing Shortage

TROY, Mich. — March 22, 2025 — Champion Homes, Inc. has officially opened its Twin Lakes at Avon Park development in Avon Park, Florida. This new manufactured housing community, which features more than 300 affordable homes for rent or purchase, was celebrated with a grand opening event on March 22, 2025. Residents are already moving into the homes, with applications currently being accepted.
The development marks a significant step toward addressing the affordable housing shortage in the state. All homes are built at Champion Homes’ Bartow, Florida manufacturing facility, with the first 118 homes completed. Installation and setting up of the homes are managed by Champion Construction Services, a Champion Homes affiliate.
“Twin Lakes is an ideal example of high-quality, factory-built homes produced on an efficient timeline in a cost-effective way,” said Richard Olenhouse, General Manager of Champion Homes’s Bartow manufacturing facility. “Offsite construction is the future of housing, and we’re excited to utilize these manufacturing techniques to bring more affordable homes to Central Florida.”
Twin Lakes at Avon Park is located in the heart of Highlands County, known for its scenic lakes, golf courses, and wildlife refuges. The community offers a wide range of amenities, including a swimming pool, pickleball court, fitness center, dog park, and clubhouse. Outdoor lovers will enjoy the private beach, tiki hut, and lake access with a public boat ramp. Unlike many Florida communities, Twin Lakes has no age restriction, allowing residents of all ages to enjoy the new homes.

The development’s offsite construction method allows Champion Homes to build homes quickly, shielded from the weather, leading to faster project timelines and quicker move-ins for residents. The approach also helps to avoid delays and additional expenses that come with traditional construction.
“Highlands County is a fast-growing community,” said Olenhouse. “It’s essential to build more affordable housing in the area, and we’re excited to be a part of it.”
The grand opening was attended by builders, community members, and local government officials, all of whom were given the opportunity to tour the homes and appreciate the construction quality firsthand.
The $200 million project is part of a broader effort by Champion Homes to provide affordable housing across the state and nation. Champion’s expertise in offsite construction is helping to meet the increasing demand for affordable housing in areas like Central Florida.
