Cardinal Health Begins New Texas Distribution Center

Cardinal Health has officially begun construction on a 340,000-square-foot distribution center in Fort Worth, Texas, to support its at-Home Solutions business. The state-of-the-art facility will consolidate two existing warehouses, increasing inventory capacity by approximately 74,000 square feet.

Once operational, the facility will handle the shipment of an average of 10,000 packages daily to patients’ homes across the United States.

“Our business plays a critical role in the lives of the patients we serve, and we are honored to continue this important work in the Fort Worth community,” said Rob Schlissberg, president of Cardinal Health at-Home Solutions. “When it comes to delivering medical supplies directly to patients in need, there is absolutely no room for error. Our team in Fort Worth is passionate and committed to delivering on our promises, and I am thrilled to see what they accomplish in this new space.”

The new Fort Worth facility will feature advanced automation and robotics, similar to Cardinal Health’s distribution centers in South Carolina and Ohio. These technologies, including 74 robots, a 1,500-foot automated conveyor system, and four automated box-making machines capable of producing 500 custom boxes per hour, aim to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve employee safety.

“Because of the investments we’ve made in our warehouse network already, in our first quarter of fiscal year 2025, we reported the best on-record metrics in quality, service, efficiency, and employee safety,” Schlissberg added. “In Fort Worth and beyond, we will continue to invest in these critical technologies that are already proving their value in improving customer experience while making us a great place to work.”

The facility will also incorporate a cloud-based warehouse management system powered by artificial intelligence, enabling Cardinal Health to maintain flexibility and resiliency in inventory volume management. This system is already in use across the company’s at-Home Solutions warehouse network.

Cardinal Health anticipates the Fort Worth distribution center will be fully operational by this summer, further cementing the company’s commitment to serving patients and advancing innovation in healthcare logistics.
