Burlington Trail Road Work Brings Delays, Long-Term Upgrades

CHEYENNE — A significant construction project is now underway on Burlington Trail Road, aiming to improve the stretch between Campstool Road and South Industrial Road in southeast Cheyenne. While the upgrades promise to enhance road conditions and connectivity in the long term, the project is already altering traffic flow in the area.

During the construction period, which is scheduled to continue through August (weather permitting), Burlington Trail Road will be limited to southbound traffic only during daylight hours. At night, the road will be completely closed. Northbound drivers are being rerouted either via Industrial Road to College Drive or through HR Ranch Road to Campstool Road.

“Drivers are advised to use caution in the work zone and obey posted signs,” officials said in a public notice.

The road work includes more than just repaving. According to the city’s transportation department, the project will feature new asphalt surfacing, upgraded drainage systems, and a Greenway extension that will link Campstool Road to the existing Greenway trail near the JL Ranch subdivision.

This extension is especially welcome news for local cyclists and pedestrians, who have long awaited better non-vehicular connectivity between neighborhoods.

Local residents have expressed mixed reactions. Some have voiced frustration over the detours and nighttime closures, while others see the long-term benefits. Business owners near the industrial area have also had to adjust operations due to the shift in traffic patterns.

Still, city officials emphasize that the end result will be worth the inconvenience. The combination of road resurfacing and infrastructure enhancements aims to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and expand recreational access for southeast Cheyenne’s growing population.

As August nears and weather conditions remain favorable, crews are working steadily to ensure timely completion of the project.
